More Information About Bone Mineral Densitometry

dexa-hipA Bone Mineral Densitometry Scan (BMD), also known as Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is a safe, fast and accurate test to assess your bone mineral density.

This test is commonly used to diagnose osteoporosis and assess fracture risk. It can also be used to monitor a patient’s bone density, especially if they are on treatment for osteoporosis. This scan is important as over the age of 35 the body tends to break down more bone tissue than it forms, which may lead to bones becoming porous and brittle leading to fractures. This test monitors these conditions and can provide the information that your health care professional will need in order to provide you with the best treatment options for your specific circumstances.

Referring doctors are welcome to discuss with our radiologist the imaging needs of their patients.

Bone Mineral Densitometry can be performed on both male and female patients.
